25.04.19 Mock SATs week

Year 6 showed everyone the reason why they are such an amazing year group when they took part in their ‘Mock SATs Week’ this week. All of the children showed an amazing resilience, commitment and dedication to their tests and all had a fantastic growth mindset. The children worked their socks off to show what they know in Maths, Reading and GPS (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling). Many of the children surprised themselves with just how much progress they have made since September. Well done!

18.04.19 Maya Civilisation

The children have been learning about the Maya civilisation. Using clay, they created their own Maya logograms - a written character that represents a word or a phrase.

28.03.19

This week Year 6 had a visit from 'Abbey Aire and the Shed of Science' -  a fun and engaging theatre programme to educate and motivate Year 6 to help improve their local air quality safely and sustainably.  This links to the Air Quality project being undertaken by Year 6 with Leeds City Council. The presentation helped children to think about the causes and health consequences of poor air quality, and to think about ways in which they can avoid contributing to poor air quality, such as using sustainable transport.

07.02.19 Maya number system

Today we found out how the Maya number system worked. It was very similar to both Roman Numerals and the number system we use today. Once we had worked out how to use it, we set each other some maths problems. We had to work out the answer and also give it Maya numbers.

24.01.19 Quick reminder: Robin Wood Assembly

Just a quick reminder that our Robin Wood assembly will be on Wednesday 30th January at 9.00am. The children are really looking forward to reliving their few days there and can't wait to see all of the photos.

Robin Wood 10.01.19

What a fantastic few days we had at Robin Wood! All children stepped up to the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Here are just a couple of photos from our visit:

Robin Wood reminder 20.12.18

As the Christmas break is approaching fast and our visit to Robinwood is taking place on Monday 7th of January (our first day back after the Christmas holidays) just a quick reminder that you must come to school on the Monday in suitable clothes ready for the trip. There is no need to wear your school uniform. We aim to leave just after 9.00am so please ensure you are organised and ready to go. Have a good look at the kit lists you were given so you have a good ideas of what to take.

Anti-bullying week 14.11.18

This week is Anti- Bullying Week. In our PSHE lessons, the children have looked at different scenarios involving bullying and have had the opportunity to suggest ways in which they would solve the problem. We looked at the impact of bullying, the different types and talked about the ways in which bullying can make you feel.

Look at our amazing self-portraits! Do you recognise who this is?

Harvest festival assembly 12.10.18

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed our harvest festival assembly. Sitting with their reception buddies, we celebrated the annual harvest and were amazed with the amount of food and gifts which were brought in by the children.

Welcome to Wenning class

Welcome to year 6 - Wenning class. I hope you all had a great holiday and feel refreshed for a year of hard work. This half term we will be learning about Crime and Punishment and the children have already started to write their own mystery stories based on the famous character 'Sherlock Holmes.'

A quick reminder that PE will be on Thursdays and Fridays so please ensure that you have the correct kit and appropriate footwear on these days.

Homework will be given out on Fridays and should be handed in by Wednesday at the latest. Please come and speak to me about your homework if you have any problems.

In science, the children are enjoying their topic on light. They were challenged to create their own periscopes using mirrors and card. All groups were successful.
